Who is the Holy Spirit? The holy spirit is described as the Comforter, and in other translators, the Advocate
John 14:26 New International Version (NIV)
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
The holy spirit is essential, the spirit of God and it is part of the Holy Trinity. My teaching will focus on the importance of the Holy Spirit.
I won’t lie to you, I discovered the Holy Spirit as from April or so this year through The Believer’s class in my old church. That was when I fully understood who and what it does. But, through experience, I was able to grasp more on.
The Holy Spirit is your personal GPS/WIFI to God. It isn’t your flesh. There is a difference between instinct and Godly instinct.
The same way there’s a difference between Good and God. The holy spirit always aligns to God’s word.
How do we receive the holy spirit?
Acts 10:44-48 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And [a]those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.
Then Peter answered, “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.
Note that this was after Jesus spoke and said he would send us a comforter after he descends up to heaven. While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word
You see, The Holy spirit is attached to the word of God. because it is pure and holy. And note that the same way God hates sin is the same way the spirit hates sin. The key is the hear the word of God. This also links to the parables of the seeds that fell on different grounds. Only those who fell on good ground germinated. Is your heart a good ground for God’s word? Or is it a rocky ground? Ask yourself that.
Romans 10:17 New International Version (NIV)
17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
For your to receive, you need to key into God’s word and have faith in it. I understand that the topic is quite broad, but my focus is more on How do we receive the Holy Spirit?
There needs to be the willingness and a sense of surrendering oneself to God. decreasing in our flesh so he can increase in us. We need to become vessels of honour for God to use us for his glory. And that happens by constant dying to oneself, to the lust of life and all that is within it. But when we allow God to lead and we allow the Holy Spirit to direct us, that’s when we will begin to walk along God’s path. And that’s when God’s will will transform into our own. For his purpose is above our own.
It just starts with surrendering to him ( Accepting Jesus as your Lord and personal savior and leaving your old ways behind ). And dying to oneself each day and meditating on his word until it becomes a part of you.
