I think aside the phrase “I love you”, the most frequently used yet poorly understood clause by all of us is “I am not perfect.” I’ve used it a lot of times in virtually all of my relationships and I’ve heard people say it to me often times as well and I believe it’s not different from your experience. Is it?

But what do we really mean when we say that? What are we hoping that the confession will achieve in our conversation? I mean, is it important to us at the time?

Recently, I’ve had to really ask myself why I say that especially in a heated misunderstanding where I have obviously flopped. I recall times where I would honestly give an apology but still say how the other person should understand how imperfect I am. It’s like the icing on the cake🤦😄
