Strangers from Ourselves

Sometimes,
We become strangers
Not from one another,
But from ourselves…
A visitor needing introduction
To ourselves within
Indeed, we get confused
And wonder how such can be,
But remember not too long ago
When we thought,
We couldn’t do this or that…
We swore and spat,
Tufiakwa
Allah ya kiyaye
But here we are now
Staring at the image of the present
Hoping to catch a glimpse of the past
Because the future seems scary
Here we are now,
Strangers from ourselves
Masking behind our haves
Fake smiling at our have nots
Blinded by what we have
While it slips away from us
I hope we awake
In the no so distant future
To recognise ourselves again
To embrace who we once were
And rid the stranger from ourselves…
