Can we at this time sing?
Can we but praise bring?
Indeed, ’tis hard to smile
For now seems like bile
We wish to spit it out
So we’d cleanse our mouths.
We wish life would be sweet
So we’d no more weep
Will our lives ever be?
Can we e’er joy, see?

I pray that hope flickers,
Let her rays shimmer
Maybe one will believe
There’s a cause to live
And though the skies be grey
And our dear hearts, fray
It will surely be well
And we’ll once more dwell
Exactly how we used to
And paint our life’s hue…
