They only told us it was a still small voice.
No one told us of the conviction,
No one told us of the ideas,
The suggestions,
The thoughts,
All in the head.
No one told of the messages through friends and family,
And sometimes strangers.
No one told us of the intramind debate.
No one told us of the seemingly irrelevant item that keeps saying “buy me” at the mall, only to realize that Grandpa had been trying to get it.
No one told us of the flexibility of the voice.
They probably didn’t even recognise the voice.
Maybe they did, but limited us.
I’m glad I now hear the voice.
That leading voice.
Which can be gentle as the traditional teachers taught us,
And can also be loud, as we’ve come to discover.
But it is never compelling.
The voice,
The voice of the most high.
“Your own ears will hear him.
Right behind you a voice will say,
“This is the way you should go,”
whether to the right or to the left.”
this is beautifully written!
