My pen bleeds and my heart aches
My thoughts are drawn from my veins,
My pain is splattered on paper,
And my hurt is right before me
Howbeit that they that ought to protect us,
A week ago decided to kill us?
Alas! Who can answer us?
Who can hearken unto our voice?
Though they destroy our body,
They can do nothing to our souls;
Yes, they trample on our flesh
But can not quench our fire within

For with one voice, we shall speak
And together, we shall cry out –
We shall speak out against injustice
We shall not support corruption
We shall refrain from folly
And keep our heart on wisdom,
Nigerian Youth, don’t give up
Though the odds seem to be against us,
O Youth of the River, do not despair
Speak up for the truth and don’t cower
For though it tarries,
This too shall pass.
