When you think of Christians, what do you think of?Judgemental? Holier art thou? Homophobic?
But, let’s look at the term Christians. Christianity started after the resurrection of Christ. Even after the apostles as they were known as disciples and not Christians. The term Christian means Christ-like. This is copying and cultivating Christ nature.
I was looking through the Bible and the only time the word Christian came up was in Acts 26
Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
Acts 26:28 KJV
Back story: Paul (Saul) is confronted by God and asked why he is persecuting him. At this time he is known as a chief at killing Christians. And this is when God appoints him to deliver his people. This wasn’t normal for Paul as he was someone who was known to kill Christians.
But despite of all this, God still used him – you can read more about this in the book of Acts.
Now, one thing that we tend to forget is that, we Christians are not perfect. And that’s more or less for the glory of God.God is able to make something out of nothing. It’s why he’s God. He sees beyond our imperfections, our insecurities, our history.
The image below explains this very well.
At this point, I know you’re wondering why this is titled Hold my cross? Well, this started from a thought I had about what the term Christian actually means. I believe that, the terms is abused and used as a pass to hide the wickedness of men.And funny enough, some people believe that sins like homosexuality is a sin when they forget that, Jesus wasn’t a homophobic. So, my question is, who exactly made up this rule? Man? Religious people? Who knows but, it wasn’t Jesus.
And if we are suppose to mirror Christ, why are some Christians so Judgemental and so bad at welcoming their hands to other people?
Romans 5:8 New International Version (NIV)
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
John 3:16 New International Version (NIV)
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Mark 12:30-31 New International Version (NIV)
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[a] 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] There is no commandment greater than these.”
