Godsent and Counterfeits

I came across this on twitter and it triggered me. I felt guilty because, I’ve done this – I’ve chased away godsents and entertained counterfeits. The result of it, was a waste. This is in so many areas and I just felt guilty and wondered why didn’t I listen to God?

As I think more about this, I realise that, I have my own biases and preference on things and expectations. As much as I try to reduce these, it usually finds it way to say hi. It takes strength not to have any expectation on something and to tackle situations with a “new” mind.

If I had pushed these biases away, I would have been able to listen to God and not my flesh or my voice. You see, the bible says how God searches our heart and he gives according to their doings:

Jeremiah 17:10 (NKJV)

10 I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.

If the fruit is rooted in our vanity and selfishness, it will result into loss, frustration and confusion. But, if it is rooted in his truth, it will lead to joy, peace and clarity.

There’s really a big difference between both and what seperates them is patience and obedience. If I had prayed and waited for God’s say , I would know the godsents by their fruits. It wouldn’t be so confusing. But, when one is in haste, it’s hard to tell.

Proverbs 29:20 English Standard Version (ESV)

20 Do you see a man who is hasty in his words?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Proverbs 21:5 English Standard Version (ESV)

The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance,
but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.

Let alone if one is hasty in our thinking. And you would think that, after seeing many counterfeits it would get easier? Lol, it really doesn’t but, when I become more sensitive and attentive to God’s voice it gets easier.

Many things cloud judgement and hearing God, here are some of them:

Fear

2 Timothy 1:6-7 English Standard Version (ESV)

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Distractions

James 1:8 English Standard Version (ESV)

he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Sin/Inquity

Isaiah 59:2 English Standard Version (ESV)

but your iniquities have made a separation
    between you and your God,
and your sins have hidden his face from you
so that he does not hear.

Pride

James 4:6 English Standard Version (ESV)

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
